Odisha 3-train accident: A ‘delayed’ twist of terrible fate

 Expressing his condolences, CM Yogi Adityanath on Saturday wished for a speedy recovery of over 900 people injured in the Balasore train accident.

He said, “You may have seen that the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express, Coromandel Express and a goods train met with an accident in Balasore, Odisha. Several passengers lost their lives in this horrific accident, and around 900 people were injured. On behalf of the people of UP and the government, I express my condolences to all those who have lost their loved ones. I wish for a speedy recovery for those who were seriously injured in the accident.”


“The commissioner of railway safety has investigated the matter and let the investigation report come but we have identified the cause of the incident and the people responsible for it... It happened due to a change in electronic interlocking,” Vaishnaw told ANI, without elaborating on it. “Right now our focus is on restoration.”


PRIME MINISTER ANNOUCEMENT


The Chennai-bound Coromandel Express carrying around 1500 passengers crashed into a stationary freight train at Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha Balasore on Friday night, killing at least 294 and injuring hundreds of passengers. The wreckage derailed another express train running north from Bengaluru to Kolkata that was passing the site.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Sunday said the root cause of the three-train accident in Odisha's Balasore has been identified. Speaking to news agency ANI, the minister, who was present at the accident site to oversee the restoration work, said the probe into the horrific train accident is complete and the commissioner of railway safety will soon submit the report.


PSU life Insurance giant, LIC Of India's Chairman on Saturday announced many relaxations for the claim settlement process for the victims of the Odisha train accident.


Expressing his grief on the Balasore tragedy, Siddhartha Mohanty, Chairperson, LIC assured that the company is committed to supporting those affected and will expedite claim settlements to provide financial relief.


Our hearts go out to the victims and their families, he said while announcing concessions to mitigate the hardships of the claimants of LIC policies and also of Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana.


"In lieu of registered death certificates, a list of casualties published by Railway Authorities, Police or any State or Central Government Authorities will be accepted as proof of death. A Special Help Desk has been set up at Divisional and Branch level to respond to claim related queries and for providing assistance to claimants," he added.
